9 Commandments of Social Justice

These are some of the commandments that God gave the Jews in the old testament. I actually paraphrased them from Exodus 23:1-9. I call them commandments of social justice. If these were practiced more in our societies today, the world would be a much better place.
Our world needs these, wouldn’t you agree?

1.You shall not circulate a false report- don’t be the one to spread false rumors and gossip.

2.Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness- do not stand as a witness for something you know is false.

3.You shall not follow a crowd to do evil- well the fact that something is popular does not make it right. Think before you do it, you will answer to God for your actions

4.You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute-even the poor have to be fairly treated.

5.If you meet your enemys ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again- the fact that you and someone do not get along or see eye-to-eye does not mean that you are off the hook from rendering them help if they need it

6.Keep yourself far from a false matter- live a life of truth.

7.Do not kill the innocent and righteous- need I say more?

8. And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous- in our world today, bribes have many names. Kickbacks, “egunje”, scratch my back, I will scratch yours. Well, God is against it.

9.Also you shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger, because you were strangers in the land of Egypt- treat foreigners and strangers well. Do not oppress or discriminate against people or people groups because they are different from you or yours.
